A Bridge to Montessori Excellence
For families whose children are already in a Montessori setting or are ready to start preschool, our Montessori Preschool Program, under the umbrella of our Primary program, offers the ideal foundation; our Kindergarten-only program is reserved for students joining the Montessori community for the first time at age five.
Learning the Montessori Method
Because these students are beginning their Montessori journey at age five, the curriculum is accelerated to introduce the core materials they will use throughout their education. Students engage in:
- Introduction to Manipulatives: Moving from concrete to abstract concepts using the Golden Beads for math and the Moveable Alphabet for literacy.
- Self-Directed Work: Learning how to choose, complete, and return work independently—a shift from the adult-led structures of traditional environments.
- The Prepared Environment: Understanding how to navigate a classroom designed for freedom within limits, where the student takes ownership of their space.
Cultivating a Montessori Mindset
The transition to Montessori involves more than just new academic tools; it requires a shift in how a child views their role in the classroom. Our Montessori Kindergarten program emphasizes:
- Circle Time: Bringing the class together as a cohesive community to share stories, introduce new lessons, and set the rhythm for the day’s exploration.
- Functional Independence: Building the practical life skills needed to care for themselves and their environment without constant adult intervention.
- Focus and Stamina: Gradually increasing the “work cycle” to help students develop the deep concentration required for higher-level Montessori work.
Preparing for Elementary
The ultimate goal of our Montessori Kindergarten Bridge is to ensure every student is fully prepared for our 1st through 3rd-grade Elementary program. By the end of this year, students are no longer “new” to the method. They have mastered the foundational vocabulary, the social-emotional norms, and the academic habits necessary to thrive in a multi-age Elementary environment. They leave Kindergarten not just as students, but as confident Montessori learners ready for the challenges of the “Second Plane of Development.”
Kindergarten Goals
- Method Mastery: Understanding how to use Montessori materials for self-correction.
- Social Integration: Successfully navigating the collaborative and respectful social dynamics of a Montessori room.
- Academic Readiness: Gaining the literacy and numeracy foundations required for 1st-grade level work.
- Independence: Moving from needing instruction to seeking out and completing work autonomously.
- Elementary Preparedness: A seamless transition into the 1st–3rd grade Montessori cycle.
